Spring is here in Victoria Park!

FIRST STREET FESTIVAL

The Haultain and First Street Festival, organized by the Victoria Park BRZ, is a celebration of community, sustainability, and the urban experience. The event takes place in Haultain Park and along 1st Street SW. Free of charge and open to the public, this event is a perfect opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the best of urban Calgary.

Save the Date!
This year’s event is our 4th annual festival; scheduled for Sunday, September 9th, 2012. It will run from 11am to 5pm, and include music, food, fashion and family-friendly activities. We expect  upwards of 10,000 attendees this year

Activities
Activities are themed around a family-friendly atmosphere that encourages healthy lifestyles, urban living and sustainable futures. Some of the events to look forward include fashion shows put on by local designers and merchants, musical chairs and other street-based activities.

Cycling awareness and activities have always been an important compliment to our urban lifestyle programming, and we look forward to hosting a number of activities to allow all age groups to access these community-building and fun events.

Such events in past years have included bike polo, strider cup for children 2-6 years old to learn balance, coordination and team spirit, as well as a bike show ‘n’ shine for older cyclists.

We partner with many businesses in the area, creating an opportunity for restaurants to extend their patios and offer festival-goers that extra flash of exposure to Victoria Park businesses.

This year we are excited to announce our collaboration with Open Streets Calgary, an initiative to bring to the fore exhibits and activities to further augment our programming on healthy lifestyles and urban sustainability.

Local music is played throughout the day on two stages located in Haultain park and in front of the Drum and Monkey. Last year performers included local talent such as Double Fuzz, Lorrie Matheson, Dojo Workhorse,  Samantha Savage Smith,  Hollow Brethren, Dead Horse, and many others.
