Exploring the Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre
Have you ever wondered what this place was all about?
The Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre is one of 14 pool and fitness centres run by the City of Calgary. This centre provides a variety of registered and drop-in fitness classes to Calgarians, both in and out of the water. It’s a space overflowing with amenities.
The all-inclusive fitness facility has a lot to offer the surrounding community. For example, you’ll find a weight room and cardio equipment, sauna, four-lane pool, full-size gymnasium, and a studio for yoga, dance and martial arts classes. Though the building was originally built in 1954, it has received upgrades throughout the years. Its most recent renovations in 2016 saw the addition of an indoor/outdoor rock climbing wall.
Part of the facility’s amenities includes well-rounded programming. The Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre offers a variety of day camps for children. These camps are split into two age groups – 6 years and under or 7 years and up. The day camps vary in themes and offer different activities for children, such as animals, climbing, sports, arts and crafts, and more. If needed, parents can also register their children for day camp pre and post-care. For more information on day camps, click here.
In 2009, the Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre launched its AfterSchool program. This drop-in program offers free, fun and safe drop-in programs on weekdays from 3 – 6 pm for youth ages 7-15 years. Some activities offered during the AfterSchool program includes art, sports, swimming, homework, leadership and healthy living. For more information on Calgary AfterSchool, click here.
As if the fitness facility, day camp and AfterSchool programming wasn’t enough, The Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre also offers certifications and leadership courses. These courses range from babysitter training and first aid to swim instructor and lifeguard training. The schedule for these courses varies and can be found here.
Of course, the Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre also offers an array of registered and drop-in programs. These programs include dance, preforming, fitness, strength, martial arts, sports and swimming. To register for an upcoming program, click here. To view the drop-in schedule, click here.
