Pride in Vic Park is a multi-generational, inclusive and educational event to celebrate Pride Week in Calgary.
The Kickoff celebration will include performances by Le Cirque de la Nuit, presented by the Victoria Park BIA, throughout the park on August 25 - 26, 2018. Entertainment on the main stage will also include drag performances, DJs, and GSD (Gender and Sexually Diverse) artists and musicians, presented by the United Way.
In addition to entertainment, the Pride in Vic Park Kickoff celebration will include activations and workshops throughout Central Memorial Park and within Memorial Park Library, which are listed below.

Living Library

Time: 1 – 4 pm
“Check out” a human “book” with the Living Library to learn about and better understand their experiences! In this special LGBTQ2S+ edition, your human book will share their personal stories to generate greater understanding, empathy, and appreciation of diversity.
Human books include: What it is like to… come out of the closet? …transition to another gender? …to live with HIV? and many more!
Tickle Trunk Painting with Calgary Pride

Members of the community will be invited to paint tickle trunks in support and distribution of Pride Calgary’s reading with royalty program.
Reading with Royalty

Time: 2 – 2:30 pm
Reading with Royalty celebrates diversity and encourages children to look beyond gender stereotypes and embrace exploration of self. In programs like this, participants are able to see people who interpret gender and imagine a colourful world where people can express their identity freely.
Spark your imagination and celebrate inclusion and diversity with our new glamorous family-friendly story time program, led by local drag queens and kings. Presented by Calgary Public Library, Calgary Pride, and Calgary Queer Arts Society.
Loose Parts with YWCA Parent Link

Loose Parts utilizes every day, natural products, such as wood items, bowls and containers, and provides children with an opportunity to use their imagination in non-directed play.
Colour Me Proud with YWCA

The YW Counselling department’s booth will engage youth in fun activities as we get ready for the Pride Parade. Activities will include music, hula hoop contests, face painting, and making tie dye t-shirts, bracelets, buttons and posters for Pride Parade.

Rebel Girl with YWCA

This workshop will explore how young folks (ages 13 to 24) can engage with feminism. Through discussion and activities, participants will explore what feminism looks like in 2018 and how they can incorporate it into their lives.
Youth & Senior Tea Social and History Walk

An intergenerational, afternoon tea for the LGBTQ2S+ senior and youth communities in Calgary. The tea social will be followed by a History Walk with the YYC Legacy Project’s Kevin Allen.
HEAT Program with HIV Community Link

This presentation covers basic HIV information including: definitions, myths and facts, stigma and discrimination, transmission and prevention, and HIV testing.
