Vine Arts is partnering with Eat North and the Victoria Park BIA and for Shake, Stir and Strainbow, a multi-venue event leading up to Calgary’s Pride Parade. From August 18 to September 2, Calgarians are encouraged to try unique Pride-themed cocktails and beers from various Victoria Park and Centre City venues.

Rebel Girl is a workshop that explores how young folks (ages 13 to 24) can engage with feminism. Through discussion and activities, participants will explore what feminism looks like in 2018 and how they can incorporate it into their lives.

This activation features an intergenerational, afternoon tea for the LGBTQ2S+ senior and youth communities in Calgary. The tea social will be followed by a History Walk with the YYC Legacy Project’s Kevin Allen.

Loose Parts utilizes every day, natural products, such as wood items, bowls and containers, and provides children with an opportunity to use their imagination in non-directed play. 

This activation will also feature parachute games and dress up. Parachute games provides a large parachute that staff and participants can use to develop games around. Dress up provides dress up items for children to use and play in dress up items, again focusing on non-directed, imaginative play.

The YW Counselling department’s booth will engage youth in fun activities as we get ready for the Pride Parade. Activities will include music, hula hoop contests, face painting, and making tie dye t-shirts, bracelets, buttons and posters for Pride Parade.

Reading with Royalty celebrates diversity and encourages children to look beyond gender stereotypes and embrace exploration of self. In programs like this, participants are able to see people who interpret gender and imagine a colourful world where people can express their identity freely.

The Pride in Vic Park Kickoff will include performances by La Cirque de la Nuit, presented by the Victoria Park BIA, throughout the park on both days. Entertainment on the main stage will also include drag performances, DJs, and GSD (Gender and Sexually Diverse) artists and musicians, presented by the United Way.

“Check out” a human “book” with the Living Library to learn about and better understand their experiences! In this special LGBTQ2S+ edition, your human book will share their personal stories to generate greater understanding, empathy, and appreciation of diversity.

Human books include: What it is like to… come out of the closet? …transition to another gender? …to live with HIV? and many more!
